Spina Bifida sufferer from Newport who completed 10K is ‘an inspiration’ – South Wales Argus

A NEWPORT student with spina bifida who completed the inaugural ABP Newport Wales 10K has been described as “an inspiration” by one of her teachers, writes Tom Moody.

Ayesha Khan, who was raising money for Whizz-Kidz, a charity that offer support and equipment to disabled children, completed the race two minutes faster than her predicted time.

Her personal tutor at Coleg Gwent, Maxine Stone, said: “Ayesha is a determined young lady who strives to achieve all she sets out to do and the Newport 10K was no exception.

“She had set herself a time, which she beat, and raised a good sum of money for her chosen charity, Whizz-Kids. She is an inspiration to us all and I look forward to seeing her succeed in her many other challenges inside and outside of college.”

Miss Khan, who studies Administration at Crosskeys Campus, said: “I beat what I was predicted to do it in. I was meant to finish in two hours 28 minutes, but I finished in two hours 26 minutes.

“In the first and second mile I felt good. Then I felt my body tire in the third mile. I felt like I was going to fall over.”
