Norton Priory launches new project for young adults with learning disabilities who love art – Runcorn and Widnes World

A NEW arts project is being launched for adults with learning disabilities.

Norton Priory Museum is starting Blue Room, a new inclusive arts programme for young adults with special needs who like art.

Blue Room, which has just celebrated its 10th anniversary, is run by Bluecoat, Liverpool’s centre for contemporary arts.

Now a new group is starting at Norton Priory Museum thanks to Arts Council funding.

Interested young adults are invited to find out more about Blue Room by attending a series of free taster days in the summer holidays.

These will take place at every Friday in August from 10am to 4pm.

Norton Priory Learning Officer Susan Brownrigg said: “The Blue Room project is for learning disabled young adults aged 18-25.

“Group members will meet at Norton Priory every Friday, from 10am to 4pm, starting in September.

“Working with an artist facilitator and guest artists, Blue Room members will go on an exciting journey together, learning about contemporary art and artists, developing a range of art skills and creating their own artwork.

“Members will make their own artwork and films and share them with thousands of people. They make new friends and develop new skills and confidence. Some members help to run activities for children.”
