How losing four stone helped mum ease chronic pain and gave her new lease of life – Scottish Daily Record

A mum with a chronic pain condition has a new lease of life after shedding almost 4st.

Alison Parkes suffers fibromyalgia and being overweight didn’t help.

But the 39-year-old is feeling much better since she shed the pounds.

After joining Weight Watchers, Alison lost more than three-and-a-half stone. Her joint pain has lessened, she feels much healthier and she has plenty of energy to play with her three active children.

Alison, from Cambuslang, near Glasgow, is so delighted with how shedding the pounds has changed her life that she has decided to become a Weight Watchers coach to help others.

She first piled on the pounds after deciding to stop smoking six years ago.

Alison replaced cigarettes with sweet treats and regularly ate takeaways and fast food at McDonald’s.

She said: “I was constantly eating to stop me thinking about cigarettes.”

Alison’s weight went up to 12st 1½lbs and she was a size 16. She also started to feel unwell.

She said: “I had constant pain in my joints and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia towards the end of 2016.

“My doctor said the weight wouldn’t help so I realised I had to do something about it.”

Alison wanted to set a good example of being healthy for her children Max, 15, Sam, 14, and Ellie.

She added: “I was unhealthy and very unhappy. I hated going out and socialising with people as I felt uncomfortable with the way I looked. I knew I had to do something about it, not just for my kids, but also for me.

“I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror or bear to get photographs taken. I wanted to be healthier so I could set a good example for them and feel happier.

“I wanted to be able to keep up with them and not keep making excuses for not wanting to go for that walk or play at the park.
