Following ten years’ service with The Royal Air Force, our founder Gavin Neate commenced an 18 year career with Guide Dogs UK as a Guide Dog Mobility Instructor. His comprehensive knowledge of visual impairment and increasing interest in new and ground breaking assistive technologies led him to create Neatebox.
Since founding the company in 2011 the company has grown in services, staff and ambition. However, one thing has very much stayed the same, Gavin and his team’s focus on improving the opportunities available to an increasingly knowledgeable and engaged disabled population.
The biggest milestone in the company’s history has been the official launches of ‘Button’ and ‘Welcome’ in Summer 2017. Both products are free for their users and have been designed to support as many of the 13 million disabled people and their carers as possible. Their development is a direct result of Neatebox striving to promote equality and the provision of services which support both the user and the people whose job it is to provide them with a service.
If you don't know, welcome is an interactive app designed by needebox here in Edinburgh which helps disabled people like me to access public and commercial services. today I used the app to shop at Jenners Department store in Princes Street and it was a very successful shopping trip for me! I received all the assistance and support I could have wished for! This service should be everywhere for those people who need it, so if you have a disability or know someone who has a disability, where ever you are, download the Welcome app and also contact Neatebox and make suggestions regarding places you would like to visit including shops, railway stations, airports and even entertainment venues. You will not regret it!!
Used the “Welcome” app at the Park Hotel Montrose. The welcome app worked flawlessly. From the get go everything was easy to use with prompt, concise and informative responses. The staff , particularly Joyce, were very helpful. Joyce met my wife and I at the entrance . Her greeting was low key and welcoming as she enquired should I request any assistance , there was no fuss or embarrassing public attention. I’m confident that the welcome app had done its job, the staff were aware of my presence and acted accordingly, treating me the same as everyone else but at the same time being aware of my physical condition. A very suitable table was allocated with easy access. Well done Neatebox team , say hi to Gav for me. I will be sending a email to the Park Hotel highlighting the points above .

I have now used Welcome at Jenners, Pinnies and Poppyseeds, Double Tree Hilton and St. Andrews Clubhouse all of whom have been brilliant and it makes such a difference to getting out and about to be able to have a seat and know there is help if I request it. I am looking forward to using the other venues on stream and will keep requesting places where I currently have stopped shopping because it is too difficult.

As founder of Accessible Travel Online I will recommend 'Welcome' to my customers and to our followers on social media. This app is for keeps.
Fantastic innovation. Technology without boundaries!
