An inspirational actor and campaigner will become the first person with Down’s Syndrome to be awarded an honorary doctorate by a UK university when she is recognised in Nottingham this month.

Sarah Gordy MBE, who has appeared in Call the Midwife and Upstairs Downstairs, will be made an honorary Doctor of Laws during The University of Nottingham’s Faculty of Arts’ graduation ceremony on December 12.

In addition to her roles on the small screen, Sarah is also a model and dancer and last month became the first woman with Down’s Syndrome to be awarded an MBE.

The honour recognised her contributions to the arts and people with disabilities.

Following the announcement by The University of Nottingham, she said: “I am really thrilled to receive this honour. It not only means a lot to me and my family but hopefully it will inspire many young people to be ambitious.
