Asperger’s student slams school after he was ‘told to “man up” when his father died of cancer’ then expelled when he criticised staff on Facebook – Daily Mail

A student was expelled from school when he took to Facebook to complain about a staff member who had ‘told him to man up’ after his father died.

Jacob Belsham confided in a member of staff at Sandbach High School in Cheshire when his father died following a battle with Oesophageal cancer.

In May, Jacob, who has Asperger’s, was disciplined when he wrote a social media post accusing staff of discriminating against people with mental health problems.

Two months later, the 18-year-old sixth form student was permanently excluded following another ‘angry’ message he sent to a fellow pupil.

Jacob took his case to the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), which has now found the top-performing school breached exclusion procedures by not informing him of his right to an independent review.

Jacob had been studying at a different college and sat his first-year exams while his father was in a hospice.

After receiving disappointing grades, he decided to retake his A-levels at Sandbach High after his father Lee died in May last year.
